Enjoy the sight and sound of native bumblebees and put the buzz into your garden or allotment! Planting bee-friendly plants will help attract many different bee species to your garden, but now gardeners can introduce their own mini hive of Britains native Buff-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris audax) derived from bees originally collected in Suffolk.
The Beepol Villa that houses the bumblebee hive is made from durable FSC sourced timber and has a rough, grey felt roof for increased weather protection. The hinged roof helps to access the bees, and there is a ventilation hole for air flow to the bees and to allow the hive to cool down in hot weather conditions. The bee entrance holes have been designed to lead directly into the large colony, which should deter wax moths from laying their larvae inside the hive. The Beepol Villa is ideal for large gardens or for incorporating into landscape features and designs.
Measurements approx. 32cm in Height:, 34 cm in depth, 31 cm in width
Please note: Each colony will normally be active for about 3 months, depending on the local environment and weather. The colony lifespans vary according to this and the colony does not overwinter. However they do produce new queens, which will overwinter but not in the Beepol Villa.(more…)
