This is the signature broadleaved evergreen of the Pacific Northwest, its sensuous, pealing, cinnamon bark easily capturing the heart of every passerby. White flowers in spring are followed by red berries adding color and texture. A choice tree for a spot in the garden that is not only NOT watered but never has to see a hose at all. 25ft-65ft tall and wide at maturity. Needs water at planting time and only infrequent water to establish. No summer water once established. Half to full sun, well-drained soil, and plenty of neglect. Cold hardy to USDA zone 7.
